Japan's Game Industry Year-end Sales Battle 2009

Japan's Game Industry Year-end Sales Battle 2009
We've got the sales figure of Japan's game market from December 2009.
Media Create, a Japanese survey agency, has released the data from December 28, 2009 to January 3, 2010. So we can analysis the year-end sales battle now.
How is the result?
I don't know if the market is energetic or not.
So the market is dull?
Only Nintendo is energetic, and that effect can't spread to others, so it seems nothing had happened if we ignore the Big N.
But I think PS3 had done quite well after FINAL FANTASY XIII.
XIII hasn't hit 2 million yet. Moreover, sales after the launching week is limited, and I can't feel its momentum. If XIII had done better, I could say PS3 is energetic...
It is a flagship title, should bear a bigger expectation huh.
PS3 got nothing except XIII. Overseas makers had launched a few big games, but not Japanese-oriented. Only core user would buy those games.
Nevertheless, FF XIII's actual sales hit 1.8 million already. That is the whole first shipment, and its sales should continue to increase gradually.
I hope it can at least hit 2 million. Let's see the coming figure.
Anything else?
Level 5's "Inazuma Eleven" hit 1 million. Level 5 is quite a new company in Japan, and it had gained top-level notice in these few years. If you ask who had done well except the Big N, Level 5 is the only answer.
Level 5 developed DRAGON QUEST 9, and everything is successful after that. Scary huh.
Let's talk about Nintendo. New Super Mario Bros. Wii launched on December 3, hit 2.7 million in Japan only. It became out of stock during the whole holiday season, and it will get a better figure when the next shipment is ready. Can hit 3 million easily.
That's why it is called the Big N huh.
For games hitting 3 million on a home console, Recently we only got Wii Sports and Wii Fit. Before that, we need to dig out PS2's DRAGON QUEST 8 in 2004. Nintendo had games hitting 3 million in 2006 and 2007. In 2009 the Big N achieved once again. Actually, Mario Kart Wii had hit 2.5 million in 2008, if that could hit 3 million, the Big N was BIGGER.
We are just talking about Japan. If we take overseas into consideration, that's scarier.
That's all for software. Let's look into the consoles.
Here is the figure from Media Create, from November 30, 2009 to January 3, 2010. NDS included the figure of NDS Lite, NDSi, NDSi LL.

NDS:0.82 million
Wii:0.81 million
PS3:0.59 million
PSP:0.46 million
Xbox 360:40 thousand

The Big N is strong in the year-end sales battle every year. The effect of those games mentioned before is clear. As for Sony, PS3 is not bad, but PSP got no big title so the result is far behind NDS. Anyway, PSP is still selling gradually in Japan.
How about Xbox 360?
For details of NDS' figure, NDSi sales better than the new model NDSi LL, 0.42 million V.S. 0.34 million. NDS Lite sold 70 thousand.
Please don't ignore...
At the end, Nintendo is the only winner of Year-end Sales Battle 2009.
But PS3 has stretched its share by FINAL FANTASY XIII. It will get a number of big games in March 2010, and we can look good on this year. Let's look forward also to other consoles' effort in 2010.
