Marvelous Entertainment Inc.'s performance is worsening huh. |
![]() |
Marvelous Entertainment Inc. is a backbone game maker in Japan. Selling games to overseas too. A downward revision of 2 billion Yen had been made to the business prediction on January 22. In the last term, it had a 1 billion Yen loss, quite worry about its future. |

What is the reason? |
![]() |
Here is the press release. "Reasons for the Revision We are developing new original series in order to strengthen our reputation. However, facing the worsening sales environment, even our worldwide big title will do badly in the near future. Also, concerning the severe market condition, overseas future sales plan had been revised. After counting Content Asset's downward evaluation (728 million Yen) into the cost of sales, we need to stop or postpone a few titles' launch. That is negative to our income." (From Marvelous Entertainment Inc.'s Press Release) |

It became a dead loss overseas. |
![]() |
Not good at all in Japan too. |
![]() |
Oh... |
![]() |
So what exactly is the cause? |
![]() |
Successful experience in the past trick its mind. |
![]() |
Successful experience in the past? |
![]() |
Marvelous Entertainment Inc. has a few success overseas such as "Harvest Moon" and "NO MORE HEROES". "Harvest Moon" hit 1 million altogether in Japan and overseas, within that 0.8 million is sold overseas. "NO MORE HEROES" sold 0.3 million overseas. It was a new Wii title so really well done. These success give it an illusion of overseas possibility. That's why Marvelous Entertainment Inc. is doing badly now. |
![]() |
Success lead to further foreign-oriented games development, those games fail and lead to the revise of oversea strategy huh. |
![]() |
Reasons for the revision only mentioned foreign stuff, but it is doing badly in Japan too. It joins anime business, that is hard to maintain profit and the negative effect is huge. That's true for game too. |
![]() |
Game department is severe too? |
![]() |
Actually the quality of its games is good, gaining good reputation too. Wii's "Muramasa: The Demon Blade" enters "Everyone's Recommendation Selection", the new budget lineup of Nintendo. Why does its performance still worsening? |
![]() |
Its biggest failure in Japan is launching PSP's "Umihara Kawase Portable". |
![]() |
You mean the action of launching is already a failure... |
![]() |
Marvelous Entertainment Inc.'s games are not for young generation, but for old users of Famicom and Super Famicom era, i.e. reminiscence. But the Portable version disappointed fans and they staged a boycott to Marvelous. All those troubles are due to that bad version. |
![]() |
That is really a memorial title for old users huh. |
![]() |
It receives hot support from Japanese core gamers. |
![]() |
Really!? |
![]() |
That's why we should pay attention to Marvelous Entertainment Inc.'s future. |
![]() |
How would it be? |
![]() |
If all problem had came out this time, next year it should make a surplus. But it may have other unprofitable lines of business, afterall game business is like gambling. Last year the Chairman had injected 0.5 billion Yen into the company, but if this situation continues, he will not do the same thing and the company may collapse. Its future is counting on the effort of both executive officers and staff. |
