Paradigm Setup - FF13 FAQs & Walkthrough

Paradigm Setup - FF13 FAQs & Walkthrough
This time I would like to recommend some Paradigm setup. That's the most important factor in FF13's battle, so you must master it.
Paradigm is the combination of three roles for a given party. A party has 3 characters and each character may only take on one role at a time. There are 6 roles available. Characters act according to their roles, so a bad combination would lead to meaningless actions.
6 roles are Commando, Ravager, Sentinel, Synergist, Saboteur and Medic.
In the beginning, each character can choose 3 roles. There is no problem to clear the game with this basic 3 roles, so I just concentrate on the default characters' setting.
Let's start.
Until middle stage, you can't choose your party member freely, and usually there are only 2 characters in your team, so only 3 Paradigms available. For attack, for recovery, and for support.
How should we set it up?
Attack Paradigm Setup:

Commando, Commando
Commando, Ravager
Ravager, Ravager

Recovery Paradigm Setup:

Medic, Medic
Commando, Medic
Sentinel, Medic

Support Paradigm Setup:

Commando, Synergist
Commando, Saboteur
Synergist, Saboteur

I see.
If a character don't have a certain role, he/she can't form a Paradigm which need that role. So you need to assign the characters to particular Paradigm, and they would act according to their roles in battle. If you want them to do other things, just Paradigm Shift to another preset Paradigm. For example, you use an Attack Paradigm to fight but your party got hurt, then you should Paradigm Shift to a Recovery Paradigm and the characters would cure themselves.
If you can do so many things when there are only 2 members, would it be very complicated when there are 3 characters in the party?
A little bit. But you can only set 6 Paradigms, so you have to choose.
Can you explain?
Here we go. Let's start from Attack Paradigm.

Attack Paradigm Setup:

Commando, Commando, Commando
Commando, Ravager, Ravager
Ravager, Ravager, Ravager

Recovery Paradigm Setup:

Medic, Medic, Medic
Sentinel, Medic, Medic
Commando, Ravager, Medic

Support Paradigm Setup:

Synergist, Saboteur, Medic
Commando, Synergist, Medic
Commando, Saboteur, Medic
Saboteur, Saboteur, Saboteur

Quite clear huh.
There are so many possible combinations, so I just recommend some easy to use.
Then we need to think about the party members and tune our own setup.
Finally, one more thing I need to tell you.
What's that?
If the same role is set to the whole party, the role's strong point will enhance. For example, if your Paradigm is Sentinel, Sentinel, Sentinel, the defense of the whole party will raise. So you can set 3 Commando if you want to raise the attack power, or you can set a Paradigm of 3 Saboteur to ensure the Debuffs would be effective. You can Paradigm Shift to a 3 Sentinel Paradigm before the enemy blow a hard attack on you, and you can avoid a huge damage this way. Keep that in mind.
