"Monster Hunter Tri" will be launched in North America on April 20. |

Today is the review of it. Japanese version was released on August 1, 2009. That's a long time ago, therefore the English version of Monster Hunter Tri may be modified. Keep that in mind when you read this review on Japanese version. |

How about its Japanese reputation? |
![]() |
...... |
![]() |
Speak something please... |
![]() |
A few problems happened in Japan, many users were unhappy. |
![]() |
And the problems are? |
![]() |
Firstly, on Wii. In 2006, it was planned for PS3. However, it changed its policy and shifted to Wii later. As fans once expected for PS3 HD graphics, when they saw the Wii version they disappointed. |
![]() |
I think there will be "Monster Hunter" series on PS3 in the future, but we still have no news about that. |
![]() |
Next problem is that its online gameplay charge us a fee. I don't know if it would be free of charge or not overseas, but in Japan we need to pay money to co-op online with others. Originally, "Monster Hunter" series became HOT because of the co-op feature of "Monster Hunter Portable": to play freely with others on PSP. But on Wii, we need to pay money every month, there is no more freedom. |
![]() |
The fee is about US$8.6 per month. |
![]() |
That's not a problem for adult, but it is severe for student to pay that every month. |
![]() |
Anyway, as for its gameplay, "Monster Hunter Tri" has a new feature of underwater battle. |
![]() |
Previous series don't have that. |
![]() |
And that is... |
![]() |
Bad? |
![]() |
When you move in water, that's really the real human action underwater. |
![]() |
That's great huh. |
![]() |
But that doesn't mean the game is interesting. The action underwater is too REAL that you can only move slowly, and that's not funny. This new feature becomes a weakpoint. |
![]() |
Huh. |
![]() |
Also, many gamers take "Monster Hunter Portable 2ndG" as a standard: Monster Hunter Tri's weapons are much lesser than 2ndG, and gamers complain. Of course that's not a problem for new users. |
![]() |
There are many old users from PSP version, so that's problematic. |
![]() |
And the total volume is not satisfying. Not only weapons, monster variation and field for battle are not enough. That's why users were unhappy about Monster Hunter Tri. |
![]() |
Japanese game magazine "Weekly Famitsu" scored it maximum. Quite different from users' review. |
![]() |
Though it has many problems, that just prove how good the PSP version is. Many Japanese enjoy hunting on PSP. Anyway, this is just the first entry on Wii and we can expect improvement in the future sequel. For oversea market, it's not popular yet. I wish you guys can try it this time and experience its atmosphere. |
