PS3 Sales in Japan Hit 5 Million, Software Sales Figure
Here in Japan, PS3 sales hit 5 Million, announced by survey agency Enterbrain. On April 11, 2010, the exact consoles sold is 5,001,598. It is 3 and a half year since PS3 launched on November 11, 2006.
It had sold a lot since FINAL FANTASY XIII launched in December 2009.
Let's check the software sales figure too. 1st is "FINAL FANTASY XIII", 1.88 million copies sold. 2nd is "METAL GEAR SOLID 4: Guns of the Patriots", 0.71 million. 3rd is "Ryu ga Gotoku 4: Densetsu wo Tsugumono", 0.53 million, just launched in March.
How about the others?
4th is "Biohazard 5", 0.52 million. 5th is "Ryu ga Gotoku 3", 0.51 million. "Hokuto Muso", which has been launched days ago, is about to hit 0.5 million, and it is assumed to be the 4th.
"Ryu ga Gotoku" series is called "Yakuza" overseas. "Hokuto Muso" is a collaboration of the manga "Fist of the North Star" and the "Warriors" series game.
PS3 hit 5 million in Japan. We don't know its exact worldwide sales figure, but it is about 34 million. PS3's Japan sales is 15% of the worldwide sales, and it is equal to the game market share of Japan in the world. There is no bias of sales due to region.
But there is bias in the types of games sold in the region.
Games which are HOT outside Japan can't sell good here, and HOT games in Japan usually doing badly overseas. This regional difference shows how unique Japan is.
PS3 and Xbox360's "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" has sold 12 million worldwide, but only 0.24 million copies is sold in Japan.
Just 2%.
Let's talk about the difference between Japan and other countries later.
