PSP Remaster: PSP Titles Customized for PS3. 1st Title Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver. Good or Evil?
Sony Computer Entertainment had an announcement.
PSP Remaster series, PSP titles customized for PS3.

"Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced that a new "PSP (PlayStation Portable) Remaster" title series, PSP titles customized and developed specifically for the PS3 computer entertainment system, will become available as Blue ray Disc games starting in the Japanese market.

"PSP Remaster" titles will deliver rich and immersive gaming experience on the PS3 system through stunning high-definition graphics as well as through additional new features for these titles, such as operability on the PS3 Wireless Controller (SIXAXIS and DUALSHOCK3), new add-on content or stereoscopic 3D support. Users will also be able to utilize the same save data from the original PSP game for the "PSP Remaster" version and enjoy the game on the go with the PSP system and continue the game at home on a large TV screen using PS3. Ad-hoc mode gameplay will also be supported through "adhoc party for PlayStation Portable" application on the PS3 system.

For Japan, the first "PSP Remaster" title to be introduced will be Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver. from Capcom Co., Ltd. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd for the PSP system is the latest installment of the blockbuster Monster Hunter franchise, which has alone shipped over 4.5 million units in Japan since its release in December 2010. The graphics of the PS3 version, including monsters, fields, equipment, as well as Felyne Comrades, are more gorgeous and vibrant than ever, and will deliver dynamic gameplay when played on the large TV screens. SCE, with strong support from software developers and publishers, will deploy various measures to enhance the software title line-up for the PS3 system. SCE will continue to further expand the PS3 platform and create a new world of computer entertainment with innovative and exciting new titles. " (Sony Computer Entertainment Press Release)

Look forward for that.
Well, more or less.
I think this is good.
Good and evil, I should say.
What is the merit then?
Just the game support big screen now. We had introduced certain products at "Machine Output PSP Games on TV", but now we no longer need such machine nor a PSP console. We can play by PS3 controller which is lighter than a PS3.
Ad-hoc mode gameplay will be supported through "adhoc party for PlayStation Portable" application on the PS3 system, and the save data can be used on PSP, so you can play the game outdoor too.
This is a merit truly.
So what is bad then?
Makers may stop creating PS3 games.
What the...
For oversea market, PSP is a total failure so they will still make some PS3 standard games. But in Japan PSP market is enough so no need to invest on PS3. They may just create a PSP game first, then release as PSP Remaster on PS3.
Possible huh.
Especially for BANDAI NAMCO.
Don't speak the name out please.
Anyway, this series should be good to both users and developers though.
You're meaning?
Firstly, those small companies which could only made PSP games in the past can now make PS3 title. And there could be a simultaneous release for PSP and PS3. Now we have that on Wii and PSP, but in the future that would change. And that can share save data too. That depends on SCE's support, would that be applied to all titles or just big sellers in the past? And we can think about download sale too.
SCE hold the future huh.
And this can attract people to buy both PSP and PS3 version so as to play wherever they are.
That sounds stupid...
Lastly, they can sell to oversea market. PSP is a failure oversea, but PS3 has a market, so Japanese PSP games can sell to oversea by this. MHP3 is not HOT on PSP oversea, but a PS3 version may have different story. Look forward to Japanese makers action.
Firstly, we should look into the sales of MHP3 this summer, then pay attention to the future lineup of PSP Remaster.
NGP (Next Generation Portable) is coming soon, so don't know how much this can prolong PSP's life. Let see if this compatible for NGP.
